چکیده

The precipitation behavior in an Al– Cu alloy isothermally annealed at 463 K was studied using Vickers microhardness tests, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). An additional endothermic peak found in the DSC measurements may be attributed to the h00-phase, independent of the dissolution of the G. P. (II) and the h00-phase at the aging temperatures. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) revealed that the G. P. (I) is formed at a very early stage of isothermal aging, even at 463 K. Comparing the Vickers microhardness and TEM images, it was concluded that the stage at which the G. P. (II) and h00-phases precipitated simultaneously is mainly responsible for the peak hardness.

THREE DIMENSIONAL ATOM PROBE ANALYSIS OF PRE-PRECIPITATE CLUSTERING IN AN Al-Cu-Mg-Ag ALLOY

Trace element additions in age hardening aluminum alloys often modify precipitation products and kinetics. In the case of Al-Cu alloy, combined addition of trace amount of Mg and Ag leads to precipitation of fine and uniform dispersions of plate-like Ω phase on the {111}Al planes in addition to the θ′ precipitates on the {001}Al planes [1,2]. The Ω phase shows high thermal stability and resista...

The Solidification Behavior of AA2618 Aluminum Alloy and the Influence of Cooling Rate

In AA2618 aluminum alloy, the iron- and nickel-rich intermetallics formed during solidification are of great effect on the mechanical properties of the alloy at both room temperature and elevated temperatures. However, the solidification behavior of the alloy and the formation mechanism of the intermetallics during solidification of the alloy are not clear. This research fills the gap and contr...

Effect of Boron Doping on Cellular Discontinuous Precipitation for Age-Hardenable Cu–Ti Alloys

The effects of boron doping on the microstructural evolution and mechanical and electrical properties of age-hardenable Cu–4Ti (at.%) alloys are investigated. In the quenched Cu–4Ti–0.03B (at.%) alloy, elemental B (boron) is preferentially segregated at the grain boundaries of the supersaturated solid-solution phase. The aging behavior of the B-doped alloy is mostly similar to that of conventio...

A Comparative Study of the Synthesis and Thermal Stability of Nanostrucrured Al and Al-Mg Powders Fabricated by Mechanical Alloying Technique

Nanostructured Al and Al-Mg (Mg 30 wt. %) powders with the mean crystallite sizes of 42 and 11 nm were prepared through the solid state ball milling technique. The milling process was performed for various times up to 12 h in argon atmosphere and the synthesized powders were in detail characterized by different techniques. The effect of milling time and Mg addition on the size, morphology, chem...
